As you know, a lot of things within the colorguard world have been put hold during the Covid-19 pandemic. Almost half of WGI 2020 was cancelled, all of DCI 2020 was cancelled, and fall programming is looking more and more uncertain as time goes on. So what can you do to continue to grow as a performer during this time? Here are some ideas.

Keep a healthy lifestyle.

Your mental, physical, and emotional health as an artist is so important. Develop an exercise regimen that works for you (Check out some of my favorite online workouts here). Make sure you’re also eating foods that give you energy and are taking care of your mental health!

Watch shows.

I’ve learned so much and have developed part of my own performance style from watching shows that I love and performers who inspire me. Take an afternoon, relax, and watch some shows! It’s fun and educational.

Take online dance classes.

TONS of studios have been offering free and low cost classes online during Covid-19. Take advantage of them! Some of my favorites include:

Clistudios

Brea Space

Steezy Studio

#RockettesLive

The Ballet Spot

Dancio

Find inspiration.

The best way to stay motivated is to find inspiration! Write your own choreography, learn choreography from your favorite colorguard infuencers, or facetime with your friend and write something together! There are endless possibilities.

Go outside and practice.

You can’t get better if you don’t practice, right? Go outside and spin! Just make sure that you’re following all CDC guidelines!

Sharing is caring!
